What is everyone advising over there re: a flu shot? We just got over our egg allergy here and can get one, but with the traveling, I'm not sure I want my kid to be a) getting the flu or b) reacting badly to the shot.
What's everyone else doing? |

Hi Elizabeth:)
Glad to see you on the London side of meetup! Re: flu shot (or jab as it's called here:), from what I understand the flu shot is not typically given to children or healthy adults in England, just to the elderly and those with chronic health conditions. Here's what the NHS has to say. I asked about getting it last year from our GP and was refused. Now with the swine flu I don't know what to do/ or think, especially being pregnant, as they are recommending that pregnant women and children do get it. Anyone getting either flu shot for themselves or their children? Edited by D'one on Sep 30, 2009 7:32 PM |

Thanks, D. You know me-- I love my meetup ladies!
They recommend over here getting them, especially the kids. Actually, if you get one, you have to (should?) get a booster a month later. The whole thing was utterly traumatic, actually. I think it took three of us to restrain him? Not going again if I can help it! Booster be damned! |

lol... I heard so many horror stories (bad flu, bad reaction, bad behavior while getting the shot...) from other mothers that I've never gotten my son the shot. We've actually been really lucky with not getting the flu. He's been super healthy.
And then my husband got the swine flu in Chicago last fall. It was insane. He was unbelievably sick. And I was so terrified that my son and I were going to get it. I was washing my hands and constantly washing my son and I almost completely quarantined my poor husband. I can't imagine what it would have been like if my son had contracted the flu. I was staying awake through the night to monitor my husband's breathing because he was so ill. Anyway, at this point, I say, if you can get the shot, get it. You DO NOT want the swine flu. |
